The Virtues of a Successful Internet
Affiliate

Getting rich working on the internet can happen to you. Yet, the
reality is that there are more online "get rich quick" schemes than there are people
getting rich. And most often than not, it's the people who are promoting the
"get rich quick" schemes who are getting rich! So, while you can earn a living
on the internet as an affiliate, don't think it's going to happen
overnight. The more realistic goal is to simply make a living as a
work-from-home affiliate, rather than getting rich and making millions. I'm not
saying you shouldn't aim for making millions - just remember to take it one step
at a time.
There are several different "virtues" that can help to make a successful
affiliate. I suppose you could say the more of these virtues you possess, the
better affiliate you will be. But if you had to choose just one - hard work ethic, dedication,
knowledge, creativity etc. - the one virtue that will assuredly help you build and
grow a solid, consistently ranking website is that of patience. Amidst all this
"making money while you sleep" and "work from home" jargon, many new affiliates
often misunderstand, whether consciously or not, that as soon as they launch a
website, they will start making enough money to quit their day job and even
retire altogether. And while that may have been possible for a few fortunate
folks during the dotcom boom, there is simply too much competition these days to
think that you can run a successful affiliate business without good-old
fashioned hard work and patience.
First off, there's the research and planning stage. Before you even choose a
domain name or a potential sector to tap traffic from, you have to do your
research. This will amount to many hours researching keyword traffic, affiliate
programs, domain names, potential competitors/partners and affiliate marketing
sites like our very own Green Affiliate Programs.
Then, when you've found your niche, you will need to do some serious
brainstorming as to how you might go about developing your website, i.e.,
navigation menus, content sections, design etc. It doesn't have to be in that
exact order, per say, but it all certainly needs to be thoroughly and
comprehensively researched.
Even after launching your site, it's going to take months before natural
search engine traffic even starts to come in. But when it does - considering
you've optimized your site's money generating potential - the money will
start to come in. Just remember, it isn't going to come flooding in. More often
than not, it will start off in small surges and gradually begin to develop into
a more consistent income stream. At this point, it would be a good idea to begin
reinvesting earnings back into your website - ideally bringing in even more
income.
The bottom line is that if you stay dedicated to your site and consistently
work on it - expanding it with relevant content and acquiring strategic links -
it will slowly but surely bring in more traffic and revenue. Don't make the
mistake of thinking you will be able to quit your job in a few month's time. If
you're like most newbie affiliate marketers, you will very likely have to keep
working at your day job while building your internet business in your own free
time. Unless you have a little nest egg that you plan on using to get you
through the several months it will take to get your affiliate business launched
(which certainly has its advantages), you will have to be even more patient
while you slowly but surely chip away at your website.
So remember, if there is one thing that will help see you through the
successful launching and development of your web business, it is patience.
Exercise it with some hard work and dedication, and you are on the right path to
success!
